Report about the WFTU-PLF Seminar on International women Day
On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, Pakistan Labour Federation (PLF) organized one day National Seminar on Violence and Discrimination against women,s and The Role of Trade Unions with the collaboration of World Asian Workers Organization (WAWO) and World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) at Hotel Ambassador Lahore Pakistan at 3.00.O Clock. Minister for Food Government of the Punjab Mr Bilal Yaseen was the Chief Guest while Advisor on political affairs to Chief Minister Punjab Mr Noshad Hameed presided the Seminar Mrs Faiza Malik Member Parliament, Mrs Iram Hussain Bajwa Member Parliament and Mr Fiaz Virk were also attended this National Seminar as a Guest of honour Haji Muhammad saeed Arian Founderr/Secretray General welcomed the Participants and Chief Guest for their valuable participation On the occasion of the International Women’s Day. He said that (PLF) (WFTU) (WAWO) presents their salutes to the working women in all over the world and expresses solidarity to their everyday struggles for the improvement of their living and working conditions.Mrs Atia Saleem Chairperson said that (PLF) have been engaged in National efforts to strengthen the working women’s movement. More women’s committees have been established within the structures of the trade unions in the spirit of the resolutions of the World Trade Union Congress of WFTU. She Said that we form a WFTU-PLF joint platform of demands and coordinate our struggle for the strengthening of the working women’s movement on National as well as on international level. She said that today ,s Grils will be the women of tomorrow and if a Girl educated, her value to her Family.her community and their economic well-being is proven to increase.Ch Tariq Javid President Peoples Trade union workers Federation said that WFTU is a class-oriented trade union movement and always struggle against the dual exploitation of the working women and the anti-labor reforms that add further burden to them and for the satisfaction of the contemporary needs of the working women have always been a priority. Malik Ali Umar Awan President Pakistan National Trade Unions Federation (PNFTU) said that we appreciated the WFTU struggle For full employment, well-paid jobs with quality and full respect for labor rights and equitable access to education, the development of upgrading and professional training for working women’s. Mrs Rizwana Yasmeen Advocate Senior Vice President (PLF) and Secretary General All Pakistan Women’s Employees Association appreciated the (PLF) Training programs on Gender Equality in the workplace. She also inform working women about the Laws and international conventions related to Gender, to explain to them about their Legal Rights and to help them ensure their fulfillment, including Legal advice in case of them presenting demands against violations of the worker’s rights and for the supervision of the ILO Conventions. Mrs Shumalia Sadiq Secretary Women Wing said that To promote the Trade Unions’ Ability women should be including in Trade unions on the Gender Issue in the collective bargaining process and the policies of Trade Union management. She said that To promote measures that might help all workers (women and men) balance Labor and family responsibilities and promote a more equitable share of tasks. Waheed Ahmad Ch Legal Advisor (PLF) (WAWO) said that it is our duty as Trade Union representatives To promote the Ratification and Application of the ILO Convention 156 100 and others on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and related to Gender Equality. And To support the adoption of the International Conventions for the protection of household workers and to promote its ratification. To promote domestic legislation against gender discrimination and to develop actions geared towards confronting inequalities. Mrs Fazia Malik MPA said that she appreciated the working of (PLF) for the develop campaigns for equal work-equal pay at the workplaces and identifying sexual harassment, Gender Violence and to seek Legislation on these issues in Pakistan She assured her full cooperation to (PLF) on these issues of working women’s in Pakistan Mr Asaf F Vardag President (PLF) Said that International Women’s Day originated in 1911 when women workers in New York held Demonstration protesting their appalling and dangerous working Conditions, after a fire engulfed their Garment Factory. On International Women Day in 1917 Russian Women Textile workers went on strike they acted against state. Mr. Bilal Yaseen Minister said that Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. Working women from all around the world ranging political rallies, conferences, and Government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more. He said that the present Government have also started to more actively support International Women Day internal events and through supporting external ones. He said that we think globally and act locally Make everyday International Women's Day. to ensure that the future for Girls is bright, Equal, safe and rewarding.
